worked as expectedMay 20, 2010 we read the other reviews so we knew what to expect, bought 3 of these corbels for our new kitchen countertop and worked just fine, after using a different set of screws (drilling through) and not the original anchors.
Look nice.
Can't use without modifyingNov 17, 2009 I found these at Home Depot for $9.00 each. Exact same corbels, and exact same issue Gary previously mentioned about the screws being way too short. I had to use 2" screws, and doubled up on the washers. Had I not read his review, I'd have been more than a little upset, so thanks, Gary. Getting these corbels with the knowledge that they need longer screws made them not so bad, especially for the price. They're very attractive and provide clearance for your knees. I put them in to help support my counter top's 13" overhang and they work great.

Can't use as is, re-work requiredSep 05, 2009 These corbels are imported from China by Waddell, a Michigan based company. Waddell didn't bother to check out these brackets before offering them for sale. If they had, they would've noticed that the manufacturer used only 3/8" screws to mount the metal screw head bracket to the wood body, so with the least little bit of weight on the shelf that these corbels support - everything comes crashing down to the ground. That's because the screws are too short ("let's make this stuff as cheap as possible") for the application. Any experienced woodworker would know that when you're screwing into the end grain - you use extra long screws to get as much bite as possible. After the first shelf collapsed - I replaced the 3/8" long screws with 1 5/8" long.
Now comes the second problem. There is not enough clearance between the metal bracket and the wood part of the corbel for the screw heads that screw into the wall. This means that the corbel sits on the wall, barely clinging to the wall-mounted screws. I placed a flat washer between the metal bracket and the wood part of the corbel in all 3 places where the bracket gets screwed to the corbel. This modification provided the extra clearance necessary for the corbel to slide all the way down to the bottom of the slots that grip the wall-mounted screwheads.
