These post caps can be attached by either applying exterior caulk to the under-side of the post cap, or by nailing the post cap to the post with finish nails. As with any exterior product, it is recommended to apply a good quality finish to preserve the wood's natural beauty and protect the post cap.
The copper has been coated to ensure it is in best possible condition during installation. When exposed to outdoor elements, copper will weather to a natural patina.
